For the elderly population, fall prevention drills should be an essential part of their treatment plan. After mastering single leg static balance, it’s time to get a little more dynamic. Here Katie has set up an obstacle course to challenge single leg dynamic balance. This has excellent carryover to real life scenarios, such as stepping onto high city curbs or out of a slippery bathtub.


Remember the importance of varying the task, in order to facilitate problem solving skills for optimal retention! A combination of challenges can include the following: 
1. forward stepping, left vs. right foot
2. lateral stepping, left vs. right foot
3. backwards stepping, left vs. right foot
5. eyes closed vs. open
